I share my esthetician’s little secrets on how to achieve glowing and beautiful skin.
I didn’t start caring about the appearance of my skin until I graduated from my Master’s and found a job. As a student, I was broke as a joke. I didn’t have $70 to spend on facials and I certainly didn’t have hundreds of dollars to spend on fancy products. All I could afford was a $5 cleanser at my local grocery store and my own popping-zits fingers (cute, right?). So clearly my skin wasn’t very happy with me. But fast-forward to today and I can honestly say I’ve changed. I get regular facials. I use better products (notice I didn’t say expensive?). And I no longer pick at my skin (ok, that actually might be a lie).
At 32 years old, my skin has never looked so good – and that’s all thanks to my esthetician Rafi. She not only does a great job at extracting the hell out of me, but she also gives me the best skincare advice. Now you’ve probably been bombarded with advice from all types of people that in order to achieve a celebrity-like skin, you should stock up on all the Chanel products available on the market. I’m here to tell you not to listen. Achieving beautiful healthy skin actually doesn’t require that much.
How to Get Perfect Skin
You know how they say that most women wear the wrong bra size? Well it’s the same with skincare. Most women use the wrong products on their skin, and that’s the main problem. The key here is to find out what type of skin you have and then buy the products accordingly. But that’s not all. There are a couple of more things you must do. So without further ado, here they are:
1. Get regular facials
Getting regular facials is a must, an absolute must. And I’m not talking about those super expensive ones where the esthetician uses extravagant products and machinery. I’m talking about those where you’ll get all your blackheads and whiteheads extracted, because those little fuckers won’t disappear on their own. So how often do you need to get a facial? It depends on your skin. I personally get one every two to three months. The best advice I can give you is to find yourself a good professional esthetician and have her guide you.
2. Never pick at your skin
I might be wrong, but I feel like more women than not pick at their skin. So if you’re one of them then you must stop immediately. Why? Because by doing so you’re not only irritating your skin, but you’re also causing its premature aging and wrinkling.
3. Hydrate like it’s your day job
Drinking water – specifically eight cups of water – every day is extremely important if you want to achieve healthy and glowing skin. Why? Because when you drink water, you flush out toxins from your body. And when you flush out toxins from your body, you help your skin look and feel great.
4. Choose the right skincare products
According to my esthetician, women make two big mistakes when it comes to their skincare routine. One, they buy products that aren’t suitable for their skin. And two, they use way too many products. In order to fix the first problem, it’s important that you find yourself a good esthetician who’ll be able to tell you what type of skin you have. Once that’s answered for you, you’ll then be able to buy the right product. In regards to building a skincare routine, these are the only products you really need: a cleanser, moisturizer, face mask and an eye cream. I only need four products, you may ask. Well, contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to have a 10-step skincare routine. Sometimes, less is more.
